Some parts of the body are more sensitive than others, and on some you really don't like needles - that's understandable. But which area is best for a tattoo? It depends. In addition to your sensitivity to pain, your choice of motif, your profession and other factors also play a role.

Body parts - tattoos: Ideally, this is a symbiosis. Your tattoo should match the part of your body, the motif and the colors must be consistent with your skin and your body shape in this area. And, of course, it is also important that it matches your lifestyle and circumstances. If you have a lot of customer contact in your job, you may not want to get a tattoo on a highly visible area such as your face or hands. Ask for advice once you have found the tattoo artist of your dreams! The artists themselves have a lot of experience and can help you decide on body parts and tattoos.

Lower lip

It sounds unpleasant, and it is, but it is less painful than other areas: The inside of the lower lip is easy to tattoo because the skin here is soft and constantly moist. However, the mucous membranes are extremely well supplied with blood, which is why these tattoos fade quickly. You don't need to worry about tattoo care, however, as this is not necessary here.

Neck

The skin on the neck is thin and has many nerves running through it. That's why a neck tattoo is quite painful. The position during the engraving is also rather uncomfortable. As the neck is exposed to a lot of light, your tattoo will age quickly on this part of the body. However, you can at least counteract this a little with intensive care.

Neck

The nape of the neck is less sensitive to pain than the throat, but it is still uncomfortable. Note: The further forward the tattoo slides towards the throat, the more painful it is. The neck is moderately affected by tattoo aging. On the one hand, the thick, well-hairy skin is such that the lines are no longer clearly defined after healing. On the other hand, the skin hardly loses any elasticity over the years. The tattoo therefore does not fade so quickly. How intensively you need to care for your tattoo on the back of your neck depends on the length of your hair and your clothing.

Back

You can put up with a tattoo on your back, but it is still very painful if it is close to the spine. You don't need to worry about tattoo ageing here, this part of the body is rarely exposed to UV radiation and the skin hardly loses any elasticity. However, because clothing often rubs here, the skin still needs a lot of care.

Chest

The closer the breast tattoo is to the breastbone and nipples or décolleté, the more painful it will be. Ladies, you have to be particularly brave: your breasts are simply more sensitive than men's breasts. Breast tattoos age faster than tattoos on other parts of the body, especially on women. This is because skin elasticity decreases here. Pregnancy and breastfeeding also change the skin. Proper tattoo care is particularly important for the breasts, especially in summer, when sufficient sun protection should be considered.

Underboob and ribs

The skin over the breastbone and under the breast is extremely thin and has many nerves running through it. This is one of the most painful areas for a tattoo. And, unfortunately, the lines often appear slightly blurred immediately after the tattoo has healed and change considerably over the next few years. Pregnancies cause major changes in the designs of women. The underboob tattoo and also the rib tattoo should be creamed frequently, and special tattoo care really makes sense here. This is especially true in summer.

With rib tattoos, ageing depends on the exact location. On the back, the tattoo remains beautiful for longer, but closer to the stomach it quickly loses its charm due to weight fluctuations and muscle changes.

Belly

Basically, the same applies to belly tattoos as to rib tattoos and underboob tattoos: they are incredibly painful because there are so many nerves running through them. Rough rule of thumb: the more ticklish you are on your stomach, the more painful it will be. Tattoo aging here depends on weight changes and changes in the abdominal muscles, and in women also on pregnancies. The area is simply difficult if the tattoo is to look good for many years. Skin care can't completely tear it off, but you shouldn't neglect tattoo care on your stomach under any circumstances!

Upper arm

Your upper arm is not so sensitive to pain, apart from the inside. Maybe that's why so many people have tattoos on their upper arm? However, you also have to bear in mind that this part of the body tends to get a lot of light and causes the tattoo to age quickly. The more of your tattoo that peeks out from under your T-shirt, the more important daily, intensive tattoo care is.

Forearm and wrist

Tattoos on the forearm are not as painful, at least on the outside. In addition, tattoos here blur and fade much more slowly than on other parts of the body. They are also easy to care for.

The wrist is the inside of the forearm, so to speak. Tattoos are much more painful here, but still bearable. Due to the thin skin and constant movement in the joint, tattoo ageing is a real problem here. Frequent hand washing and UV radiation cause tattoos to fade quickly. The right care is extremely important on the wrist, and it can be intensive.

Hand and fingers

The skin is very thin on the back of the hand as well as on the fingers. There is no subcutaneous fatty tissue here. That's why these are some of the most painful areas of the body for tattoos. In addition, your hands are permanently exposed to UV radiation, suffer from cold, are constantly washed and are exposed to mechanical stimuli. These are the best conditions for tattoos to age quickly. This makes intensive and regular care with special products, which should always have a higher sun protection factor, all the more important.

Thigh

The thigh has a lot of subcutaneous fatty tissue, which is why the tattoo doesn't hurt so much, at least on the outside. It's a different story on the inside of the thigh, where only lovers of pain should get a tattoo. How quickly your thigh tattoo ages depends on your connective tissue. Frequent weight fluctuations, pregnancies and weak connective tissue are bad for the tattoo. Intensive care is important, as clothing often rubs here. And apart from that, care is also good for your connective tissue and keeps your skin elastic.

Wade

The calf is an area that is particularly suitable for beginners when it comes to tattoos. This is because the pain here is limited, apart from a few reflex points. There is also a very practical factor: anything below the knee is less affected by tattoo ageing. The skin does not lose its elasticity so quickly and weight fluctuations do not play a role. Apart from sun protection, your calf tattoo hardly needs any care.

Foot

Your feet are extremely sensitive to pain. And foot tattoos are also a challenge for tattoo artists. This is because there are reflex points that cause the foot to twitch uncontrollably during tattooing. Tattoo aging is only an issue here in one respect: the colors tend to run because your foot is under stress all day long. Socks and shoes rub, which damages the design. Please always take good care of them!
